Monday’s Race Report Update

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

By Sam Atwell

My how some things never change.  Jimmie Johnson wins again.  He picks up his second win out of three races this season.  No luck involved this time, just a superior crew chief, pit crew and driver.  Jeff Gordon destroyed the field for most of the day, but just like in recent history the 24 team couldn’t seal the deal.  Jimmie and Chad are just too good.  There is no stopping this team.  The drive for a fifth championship is well underway.  Get a wrap-up of all the racing action from Las Vegas on todays edition of The Race Report Update.

Friday’s Race Report Update

Friday, February 26th, 2010

By Sam Atwell

The Sprint Cup Series heads into Las Vegas this weekend for the third race of the season.  The weekend is full of tired and worn phrases that play off of the city itself, but I can’t help myself, because it is so easy so here we go.

As the teams roll into Vegas you have to wonder who is going to roll the dice this weekend to hit the jackpot in victory lane at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  After two disappointing weeks the 24 team may gamble against all the odds to get into the top five this weekend.  One team that has parlayed their off-season work into a top-five position in the points standings may just go one better this weekend and end up with the win.  Jeff Burton has a miserable season last year.  So far 2010 has been kind to the 31 team and this weekend they find themselves at a track where Jeff Burton has done very well.  Burton talks about racing at Vegas on todays edition of The Race Report Update.

Thursday’s Race Report Update

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

By Sam Atwell

Last week I was very critical of Jack Roush for yet another crew chief change for the #17 team of Matt Kenseth.  My criticism stems from the multiple crew chief changes that have happened to all Roush-Fenway teams over the years.  I stand by the argument I made, but I must pull back some of my criticism.  The current change on top of the 17 pit box was asked for by the driver, Matt Kenseth.  In this case, if the driver asks, then in most cases it is a good decision.  Matt Kenseth talks about the reason he asked for the change on todays edition of The Race Report Update.
