One of the great success stories of 2009 will be Mark Martin.  If he hangs on to win his first Cup championship it will be one of the stories of all time in NASCAR.  At 50-years-old, Martin, has shown that age is nothing more than a number on a piece of paper.  He has shown these youngsters that age doesn’t matter.  The success he has had this season has led to a two-year contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports.  With the age range between Martin and Joey Lagano, one of the youngest drivers in the sport, there is a driver for every fan of every age.  With NASCAR experiencing one of it’s most challenging seasons this year, Martin talks about his age and what it has done for the sport this year on todays edition of The Race Report update.

Tuesday’s Race Report Update

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

By Sam Atwell

There have been instances in NASCAR racing when teams have used diversionary tactics to make teams think they are not running as well as everyone thinks.  As competitors it is goood to get inside your opponents head, so to speak.  To be able to keep your focus on the things you can control is the idea.  The kind of performance put on by Jimmie Johnson and company on Sunday is just the kind of thing that gets into the head of other drivers.  When the competition knows the record of Johnson in the Chase and sees it happening again they might give up hope of even challenging them.  One of the most incredible things about Johnson and Knaus is the ability to focus on things that make them the best.  Jimmie Johnson talks about his race on Sunday and how he hopes it does psych out his competition on today’s edition of The Race Report.

Monday’s Race Report Update

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Race to the Chase 2009, Jimmie Johnson wins at Dover, climbs to within 10 points of the leader Mark Martin.  So what’s new?  It’s the Chase and Jimmie now owns a win and a top five in the first two races.  I don’t know what more can be said about the reigning champion.  Jimmie and Chad know how to conquer the Chase format.  Some people, including me, thought that something was just a little off with this team this season.  They had let some wins slip away the last few weeks of the regular season, had a couple of races where they almost seemed human, but alas it is the chase.  All they seem to be able to do is win races and finish in the top ten each and every week of the chase.  Are there some drivers who may beat the 48 team?  Yes I think there are, Mark Martin just may be able to dethrone the king.  Martin has a win and a second place finish, but is only 10 points ahead of Johnson in the standings.   It is going to be a tall order for anyone to knock Johnson of the stage, stay tuned, it is going to be a lot of fun to watch the Chase.
